Lillie Yard Studios

London SW6

inDA has recently completed a commercial warehouse unit adjacent to the Earls Court Masterplan. Lillie Yard Studios, occupies a former recording studio complex historically co-founded by composer Hans Zimmer and Stanley Myers. The building, which had fallen into disrepair, was a prominent studio in the 1990s, known for its innovative use of technology, focus on electronic music and film scores, and was recently featured in a Netflix documentary about Zimmer.

The building has undergone a full renovation, unifying the previously separate studio and office spaces, and completed to a CAT A fit out for incoming tenants. The design draws on the light industrial character of the site and its urban context.

The original steel structure has been preserved and left exposed internally. A new steel portal frame sits on the existing steelwork allowing the roof to raise up and create a dramatic double-height space with a mezzanine that visually and physically connects to the main studio area.

All services are exposed within the double height studio space and concealed within the mezzanine floors. Lighting is carefully considered with feature lighting highlighting the steel frame structure.

Externally, the building is clad in London stock brick, with dark grey roof cladding, referencing the material palette of the local area.
